Pterocarpus Santal is a species of tree found in the southern eastern Ghats mountain range of South India. Also known as red sanders, red sandalwood and saunderswood. Not to be confused with the aromatic Santalum sandalwood tree, red sandalwood is a light demanding tree that grows fast and tall in three years, even in degraded soil. The wood is a rich red color and has been used medicinally as well as used for dyeing cloth, leather and the timber used to make furniture.
