Sappanwood, also known as Caelsalpinia Sappan, is a medicinal and dye yielding pland. Relative of Brazilwood, Caesalpinia Echinata, it's other common names are "Brezel wood" and East Indian Redwood. Sappan wood is a small evergreen tree that blooms from June to September and grows in all kinds of soil. The important part of the plans is the heartwood that contains water soluable dyes, such as Brazilian, proto sappanins, sappan chalcone and haematoxylin.
